James Gillan (Wicked, Taboo) and Paul Spicer (Avenue Q, The Last 5 Years) will headline the world première of the brand new British born musical The 8th Fold in a specially conceived concert staging poignantly timed to take place on Remembrance Sunday.
Olivier Award nominee James Gillan – best known for originating the role of Boq in the London production of Wicked – will return to the West End following a summer season playing the lead role of Seymour in a new production of Little Shop of Horrors at Aberystwyth Arts Centre. His previous credits include Rusty in Starlight Express and Marilyn in Taboo.
Paul Spicer returns to perform in the West End for the first time in over two years, since he played Princeton / Rod in the final cast of Cameron Mackintosh’s Avenue Q. This new musical will be the first piece of contemporary musical theatre that he has performed since playing Jamie in The Last 5 Years at the Theatre Royal Haymarket five years ago as part of the the hugely successful Notes from New York series, which he co-created.
The 8th Fold is a musical about loss, learning, and new beginnings. Set in the recent past, and rooted in the American War on Terror, it tells the story of four boys ravaged by grief and the steps they take towards a brave new start. Over the course of a single year, it celebrates friendship, remembrance, and hope for the future.
The principal cast – with further stars to be announced – are supported by an ensemble of emerging talent, comprising Sharif Afifi, Alex Beaumont,Will Bradnam, Dario Cacioppo, Nathan Lodge and Matthew Maguire.
