Taking Notes returns for its third inspirational year, intent on nurturing the future stars of British musical theatre.

The one-week course in contemporary musical theatre has been described by past students as “truly inspirational” and “a unique and original idea”. Past students have gone on to study at the UK’s top drama schools, as well as performing professionally both in the UK and abroad.

Under the guidance of tutors from the West End and beyond, Taking Notes aims to introduce students to a wealth of material they have yet to discover, and combine new ideas with already established performance skills, re-enforcing the fact that extracting information and absorbing ideas from others is the most effective way to stay at the top of your game.

Taking Notes is a new take on how to approach work as an actor. It’s about the individual, so that you leave with a completely focused mind and a positive mental attitude to your work. It’s the perfect tonic to remind yourself of the love of discovering beautifully written and endlessly inspiring new, contemporary musical theatre writing.

This year Taking Notes will reunite the original Notes from New York creative team Paul Spicer (Course Director) and David Randall (Musical Director). They will be joined by prolific talent from the West End, including Hannah Waddingham, Michael Jibson, Julie Atherton and Michael Bruce, as well as top talent agent Wendy Scozzaro from Felix de Wolfe, for a series of masterclasses.

Taking Notes has inspired major breakthroughs, encouraged epiphanies, and left students with a renewed love for what they do, and a stronger sense of who they are as a performer. Culminating in a semi-staged showcase of material at the end of the week, Taking Notes is a journey of discovery open to all performers over the age of 18, whether professional actors, currently attending a full time course, or simply performing for pleasure.

WHAT THE STUDENTS SAY
notes

"After a bit of a slow year with auditions and jobs, I decided to be pro-active and do some classes. A friend of mine recommended the Taking Notes course and it was the best possible thing I could have done. As well as being directed by some incredible tutors, I learnt so much and really gained the confidence to believe in myself again. Without a doubt, the turning point in my career."

Jennifer Potts (currently playing the Narrator in the UK tour of Joseph)

“Before Taking Notes, I was at a crossroads and seriously lacking in confidence. I can honestly say that this course gave me the encouragement, push, support and inspiration I needed to take things a step forward and to understand that it wasn't about being a clone, but learning how to work to my own strengths. There are so many opportunities out there, you just have to find them. Starting with Taking Notes would definitely be a smart move, because I promise you it'll open your mind and inspire and encourage you to take those all important steps towards your goals.”

Tori Allen-Martin (currently in the cast of the European tour of Hair)
