Julie Atherton: No Space for Air
Fri 8 Oct 2010

Julie Atherton will showcase her eagerly anticipated second album No Space for Air with her first ever Northern solo gig. The Preston born musical theatre star will appear at Manchester’s prestigious Band on the Wall for one night only on Friday 8 October 2010. She will be joined by special guest Jon Lee, best known as a member of S Club 7.

No Space for Air will showcase songs from the new album in a uniquely intimate setting, offering Julie’s Northern based fans their first opportunity to hear this lauded leading lady cast her genre-defying interpretations on a range of classic tracks and brand new songs penned specially for her voice. The album will also be available for purchase on the night.

Fusing an innate theatrical sensibility with a ravishingly raw, angst rock vibe, No Space for Air is a unique and groundbreaking album for the Spring Awakening and Lady Gaga generation. Julie’s musical influences range from Alanis Morrissette and Skunk Anansie to legendary musical theatre composer Stephen Sondheim, leading to a wonderfully eclectic and personal selection of material.

Julie Atherton is one of the North West’s most prolific and successful young musical theatre stars currently working in the West End, having played the leading roles of Sophie in the smash hit musical Mamma Mia!, Serena in Fame and Cathy in Jason Robert Brown’s The Last 5 Years. Best known for originating the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut in the popular puppet musical Avenue Q, she is also an experienced concert artist, having headlined numerous musical engagements at venues as diverse as the Donmar Warehouse and the Royal Albert Hall.

Quotes...

“Today's leading lady of new musicals."
Sunday Express

“Her second stunning solo album showcases a series of new songs and new composers. Musical theatre is in safe hands when promoted as brilliantly as this."
Mark Shenton

"Atherton is a good enough singer to make us uncharacteristically jealous. If the hidden track doesn’t make you stop what you’re doing then you’re probably not entirely human."
Pink Paper

“A force to be reckoned with."
