Speckulation Acoustic Sessions: Julie Atherton
Sat 4 - Sun 5 June 2011

West End star Julie Atherton creates a completely unplugged re-working of her acclaimed album No Space for Air to celebrate the first anniversary of its release.

Best known for creating the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut in Avenue Q, and her role as Cathy in Jason Robert Brown’s The Last 5 Years, Julie is one of the most prolific and successful young musical theatre stars currently working in the West End, having previously played the leading roles of Sophie in the smash hit musical Mamma Mia! and Serena in Fame. She is an experienced concert artist, having headlined numerous musical engagements at venues as diverse as the Donmar Warehouse and the Royal Albert Hall, and is also the star of the international YouTube sensation, ‘Portrait of a Princess’.

Julie launched her second solo album, No Space for Air, at the Delfont Room in June 2010, following which she made her North West solo debut at Manchester’s infamous Band on the Wall.

Relaunched in 2010, The Pheasantry is a beguiling venue on the Kings Road in the heart of Chelsea, which is fast becoming established as the new London home of contemporary cabaret and intimate concert performances. Since its relaunch, The Pheasantry has played host to the highest echelon of cabaret performers, as well as stars from the West End, Broadway and beyond.

Quotes...

“Today's leading lady of new musicals."
Sunday Express

“Her second stunning solo album showcases a series of new songs and new composers. Musical theatre is in safe hands when promoted as brilliantly as this."
Mark Shenton

"Atherton is a good enough singer to make us uncharacteristically jealous. If the hidden track doesn’t make you stop what you’re doing then you’re probably not entirely human."
Pink Paper

“A force to be reckoned with. "
